Bible Study Resources

I have invested many years studying the Bible and building a study filled with very select Bible study resources.  As my drinking career began to near the end, I had all but walked away from God.  As I sobered up, I realized that I needed God as my Higher Power.  So much has changed with respect to resources.  As I have rekindled my relationship with God I have had to relocate all of my favorite and trusted resources and authors.  Most of the volumes I had that took up so much shelf space are now available online as e-books.  Many of my favorites are offered for sale through sites like OliveTree and even Amazon.  This allows me to keep all of my most favorite and trusted resources at my finger tips.  I use OliveTree, BibleGateway and Crossway as my most trusted sources of Bible study and research materials.  So much of what I use is now internet based.  In the “old days” I had a library of hard copy materials.  Study was much slower and more methodical then.

Bible Translations

There are so many Bible translations available today.  The problem is that some of these “translations” read more like paraphrases.  In an effort to reach more people, Bible have been made easier to read.  That said, there are so many solid translations of the Bible.  My two favorite translations are acknowledged as the editions that most accurately translate the Bible into the English language.  My two favorite translations are:

Crossway: English Standard version

Zondervan: New American Standard Bible

Electronic Bibles and Study Aids

OliveTree

Crossway

BibleGateway

Independent Resources

Bible Knowledge Commentary: John F Walvoord & Roy B Zuck

Thru the Bible: J. Vernon McGee

Thompson’s Chain Reference NASB Bible (1)

Thompson’s Chain Reference NIV Bible (1)

(1) Because the hardcopy Thompson Chain Reference Bibles are so expensive, I use the digital version available through Olivetree.

I also like the Expositor’s Bible Commentary.  There is an abridged two volume set and the full set which is thirteen volumes.  I prefer the full thirteen volume set, however, I have purchased the books individually as I need them since purchasing the entire set at once is extremely expensive.
