How to Know God

Plan of Salvation

Do you want to know God personally and be sure that you will go to heaven when you die?

Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me.’ (John 14:6)

God does not give people religious options, He does, however, offer a loving plan of salvation.

Step 1

Realize your need of God’s savior Jesus Christ.  Because people usually think they are as good as others, they become indifferent to God’s truth.  Regardless of how good we may feel about ourselves, God says we are sinners. ‘For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…’ (Romans 3:23).  ‘All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way…’ (Isaiah 59:2).  Sin is serious.  Sin involves selfish disobedience to the holy God in thought, word or deed.  Because of sin, people are born spiritually separated from God (Ephesians 2:1, Isaiah 59:2).

Step 2

Repent, change your mind about your sins and indifference to God and Jesus (Acts 2:38).  God’s only provision for sin is in the cross of Christ (1 Peter 3:18).  People need to scrap man-made religious options and go to God through Jesus.  If people refuse God’s gracious offer of forgiveness of sins in Christ, they will spend eternity in hell (Luke 12:4-5,20).

Step 3

Receive God’s gift of salvation by trusting Jesus Christ.  God will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves by giving us salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9).  Those who try to religiously ‘work for’ or ‘work through’ their salvation cannot be saved (Titus 3:5).  People who believe Jesus died for their sins are saved.  ‘Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ’ (Romans 5:1).

Prayer

These words of prayer may help you to put your faith in Jesus: ‘Dear God, I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness.  I believe that your Son, Jesus, died for my sins on the cross and that He was raised from the dead.  I receive Your forgiveness.  Thank you, Jesus, for forgiving and saving me.  Amen.’  To gain personal confidence of your salvation, you must cultivate the spiritual life God has given you by learning more about the Bible (1 John 5:13) and by living obediently to God in the Holy Spirit’s power (Galatians 5:22-25).
