Bible Verse

Psalms 33:18-20 (ESV) 18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, 19 that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.  20 Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.

Hope for Today

In the first 17 verses of this chapter in Psalms, the absolute majesty of God is described for us.  God is so far beyond anything we can think or feel or understand.  Yet, He has His eye on those who fear him.  Think about the galaxies for a moment.  Think about how vast and unexplored space really is.  There is so much we do not know about our own galaxy, let alone the unknown numbers of galaxies beyond ours.  And in the earlier verses we are reminded that God sits over ALL of that.  Through all of that space and time, past all of those planets and stars, He not only sees earth, but He sees me and you and each of us who fear Him and trust Him.  He created all of that vast space and yet He takes the time to know me.  That is an unspeakable mystery to me.

Application

God created such a great expanse.  It is unfathomable how deep and wide the universe really is.  Yet through all of that creation, He cares for each of us as individuals.  His Son came to this earth, lived among us, died for our sins, and was resurrected to eternal life with His Father.  Jesus would have done that even if only one person were saved through His actions.  We have such a loving and caring God.  The Psalmist describes God’s love as steadfast.  That means His love is solid, it is unwavering, and it is constant.  With a creator who loves us this much, how can we not have hope in an eternal future far greater than anything we can imagine.  If our Creator and create such a vast canvas in the universe, how much greater is the place He is preparing for us even now?

With a creator who loves us this much, how can we not have hope in an eternal future far greater than anything we can imagine.

With all that we are facing in 2020 with the global pandemic, look at the promises that are contained in verses 19 & 20.  No matter how tough it gets here, He promises to deliver our souls from death.  But His protection does not end there.  He promises to keep us alive in famine.  And if our soul waits for Him, He promises to be our help and our shield.

The world cannot throw anything at us from which our God cannot protect us.  We can take these promises with us to eternity.

Prayer

Lord, thank you so much for all that you do to protect us and keep us safe.  We ask Your forgiveness for those times when we sin and let You down.  Yet we thank You that You that we have forgiveness through the atoning sacrifice of Your Son.
