Grace | Psalm 116:4-7

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Despite whatever storm we may be facing in life, we must never forget that our God is a God of grace!

Bible Verse

Psalms 116:4-7 4 Then I called upon the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I beseech You, save my life!” 5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate. 6 The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me. 7 Return to your rest, O my soul, For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.

Topic

God, through our faith in His Son Jesus Christ, teaches us the true meaning of grace. Grace has nothing to do with what we do for others or what others try to extract from us. Grace is expressed by God to those who believe in Him and have faith and trust in His Son Jesus. We have done nothing to earn God’s grace. It is what He has done for us that defines grace. We can call upon Him, even beseech or plead with Him, to save our lives and He will. He answers us because of His love for us. We should never make the mistake of doubting God’s love for us. It is easy to find doubt seeping in around the edges when life is difficult. But, these are the exact times that God wants us to fully rely on Him. We learn to fully rely on Him when we learn to have faith in Jesus.

Application

When we are experiencing difficulty in life, Satan uses those times to cause us to question our faith in God’s grace. Does this question sound familiar: How can a loving God allow bad things to happen to good people? God allows us to be brought low so that we can begin to comprehend His love for us. If we have faith in Jesus during our most difficult times, we will experience God’s grace and compassion. He promises to preserve us. Like the experience of the Psalmist, when we are brought low, God saves us. He gives us rest for our souls and we begin to recognize and experience the bountiful blessings that come with faith in Him and in His Son.

Are you experiencing a storm in your life today?

Have you cried out to God for the salvation that only He can offer?

Meditate on these verses and ask God to show you how to more fully rely on Him.

Prayer

God, thank You that even, or maybe especially, in the lowest of times You stand ready to save me if only I will cry out to You. Today I cry out to You and ask You to deliver me from the difficulty(ies) that I face.
