Forgiveness | Micah 7:18-19

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Who among us does not need the forgiveness that our God offers to each of us?

Bible Verse

Micah 7:18-19 18 Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in unchanging love. 19 He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea.

Forgiveness

In these verses we see Micah speaking to us of the forgiveness that our God offers each of us. He begins with the question: “Who is a God like You…”? God both pardons our iniquity and He passes over our rebellious acts. Of course this requires repentance, but our God is a forgiving God. God is certainly angered by our sin and rebellion, but He does not remain angry forever. God’s character is unchanged. At His core, He is a loving God who expects His children to live a life of righteousness before Him. He may punish us for our sins, but He always returns us to Himself and has compassion on us. Some seasons of life may be difficult, but we serve a compassionate God who treads our iniquities under foot. When we repent and He forgives, our sin is separated from us as far as the depths of the deepest sea.

Application

Forgiveness is like a new day dawning. When we experience God’s forgiveness, we receive relief from the wrong that we have done and we are assured of an eternity spent in heaven with Him. The greatest enemy we face is Satan. He is unseen but can be felt in the fabric of life. He wiggles his way in between the seems and fibers of the fabric and wreaks havoc with our minds and our faith. His goal is to cause doubt within us that God could forgive someone like me. And yet, that is exactly what God does. He offers me forgiveness from my sins. God’s forgiveness is loving, eternal, and personal. God offers me eternity with Him. And He uses what was once my weakness as an opportunity to minister among those similarly afflicted. Do not make the mistake of allowing Satan to turn you from God’s forgiveness!

Have you considered the forgiveness God is offering to you?

Prayer

God, thank You that you are a compassionate and loving God who offers me forgiveness for my sins. Help me to confess and repent of my sins and live a life of the greater righteousness You desire for me.
